A Synonym for Change

Most people like the concept of change. They like to think, dream, and imagine of what life could be like. Most people also stop there, because it's the next step that's the hardest part: the work.

Take me for example, I have lower back problems. I dream of being pain free and not having to worry about bending over and picking something up. But do I do my stretches every day? No. Have I changed my healthy caloric intake? Maybe a little. Have I done core strengthening workouts? Once every few weeks. So guess what? I'm not putting in the work, so I'm not seeing any change.

A lot of people today are dreaming of a world of beautiful equity and inclusion. Equal treatment. Equal access to education, loans, opportunities. After the murder of George Floyd, many are now joining the conversation that has been ongoing for decades. I am glad you are here, even if it took you a minute to get here. I would always rather have friends show up late to a party than not at all!

But now that you are here, the idea of change sounds beautiful, but you are seeing just how big of an issue it is. How much it has branched into aspects of our government - both state and national. It looks like it's going to be a lot of work... and you're right. But a synonym for change is work.

Not changing is no longer an option, especially knowing what you now know. So that means work is the only option. White friends, let's work.
