Ask Better Questions

I am on a mission to punch small talk in the face. In a world that is filled with distractions, insecurities, and an uncomfortable relationship with the word “busy,” the way that we connect is suffering. The manner that we care for each other is diminishing. And the patience we show to one another is lacking. ⁣

On this long weekend, let us all try to get one layer deeper with someone we meet. Try to stay in the conversation just a little bit longer. When you feel yourself reaching for the eject button, instead ask a question... and focus on caring about the moment, not what comes after it. ⁣

Otherwise, these barbecues are going to get way more likes on social media than they ever got in person. And the incessant mediocre cell phone photos of fireworks will get more love than the people we actually spent real time with. Small talk sucks, so ask better questions.
