Ep 27: Getting Men to Have Better Conversations with Tim Mousseau
Tim Mousseau jumped into the diner with me and things got heated early. We tried to settle the age-old debate of which is better: pie or cake. I’m not sure if we got anywhere but hungry, but it was worth it. We then discussed Tim’s wonderful way with words and as a writer (see what I did there?). Along with painting with words, he himself is also “painted” with tattoos and I loved hearing about the origin of wanting to be almost completely covered. We then jumped into a powerful conversation about masculinity. When does one learn what kind of man they are? How do we take responsibility as men? Is the Alpha Male dead? We connected over the need for men to have harder conversations with other men. One area men need to talk more about is the role they play in the perpetuation of sexual assault and sexual violence. Privilege is often an uncomfortable conversation, but that’s exactly why we need to talk about it more and owning where we as white men benefit from it.
